"We Are Fiber" goes pink for breast cancer awareness month: WE ARE STRONG

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer? Fortunately, breast cancer death rates have been decreasing steadily since 1989 until now. The decrease is believed to be the result of finding breast cancer earlier through screening and increased awareness, as well as better treatments.

However, the decline has slowed slightly in recent years, meaning that we still must raise awareness and remind people of the importance of health controls.

During this corporate social responsibility project, We Are Fiber is in solidarity with "Pink October", the month dedicated to raising awareness and support for breast cancer awareness, diagnosis, preventive treatment, and care for this disease.
We Are Fiber’s goal is to influence and support its employees in bringing more attention to their health.

Here’s what our employees received this month:

  • Free Analysis
  • Free Breast Echography
  • Free CA 15-3 (The cancer antigen test

Plus, a Free BV Swab Test (For diagnosing bacterial vaginal infection).

When it comes to health, We Are Fiber gives its employees nothing but the best options. We offered all women over the age of 30, the free diagnostic tests mentioned above, at Microtest Diagnostics Health Clinic.

Pink October Campaign goes beyond wearing pink!

From October 26 to October 28, all employees were carrying pink ribbons to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer.
On October 28, all employees of We Are Fiber were wearing pink to raise awareness of the cause.

These little details are very meaningful to us as they remind our employees of the seriousness of this disease and the impact it has not only on women but on the whole community.

Every ribbon makes a difference, as it serves as a reminder for every strong woman currently fighting cancer. It is also a reminder for everyone, that early detection, is the best form of protection!

During this month, our CSR’s goal was to educate everyone around We Are Fiber about this cause and make breast cancer fighters and survivors, as well as their loved ones, feel more united. No one fights alone and no one has to!
Below you will find everything you need to know regarding this malignant tumor.

Early detection is the most effective treatment!

Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women who suffer from it, at first have no symptoms. This is why regular breast screening is so important.

The examinations We Are Fiber provided as part of this CSR, help in identifying breast cancer. Then, if there’s an area of concern on the screening test (echography) or on the results of the analysis, doctors will advise their patients (in this case our employees) on further examinations.

First things first, what is a normal breast? What does a normal breast look like?

Knowing how your breasts normally look and feel is an important part of your breast health. No breast is typical. What is normal for you may not be normal for another woman. The majority of women report having lumpy or uneven breasts. Getting your period, getting pregnant, having kids, losing, or gaining weight, and using certain medications can all have an impact on how your breasts feel and look. As you age, your breasts also tend to change.

It's especially important for you to know what your breasts normally look and feel like, so you’ll be able to identify the changes happening in your breasts.

However, clinical breast diagnosis tests should be a part of your routine check-up once a year, even when you haven’t noticed any changes in your breasts.

Speaking of these changes, here are some of the most common symptoms of breast cancer.

What signs to look out for?

The most common symptom of breast cancer is a new lump or mass (although most breast lumps are not cancer). If it’s a painless, hard mass with irregular edges – it is more likely to be cancer. However, breast cancer can also be soft, round, tender, or even painful.

It is important to highlight that different people have different symptoms of breast cancer. In fact, as we already mentioned, some people might not have any signs or symptoms at all. Hence, we keep highlighting the importance of regular screening.
Some other warning signs of breast cancer can be:

  • Swelling of all or part of a breast (even if no lump is felt)
  • Skin dimpling (sometimes looking like an orange peel)
  • Breast or nipple pain
  • Nipple retraction (turning inward)
  • Nipple or breast skin that is red, dry, flaking, or thickened
  • Nipple discharge (other than breast milk, including blood)
  • Swollen lymph nodes under the arm or near the collarbone (Sometimes this can be a sign of breast cancer spread even before the original tumor in the breast is large enough to be felt.)
  • Any change in the size or the shape of the breast

Be aware that a lot of these symptoms can also be caused by benign (non-cancerous) breast conditions. You will find out what’s your case only after the proper medical examinations.

Remember that having knowledge of the symptoms does not take the place of having regular screening for breast cancer.
These examinations can often help find breast cancer early before any symptoms appear. And finding breast cancer early gives you a better chance of successful treatment.

You should also know that these symptoms can happen with other conditions that are not cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness – More than just a month!

“Pink October” is a reminder that our support for those battling cancer should not just be limited to one month.
Through this social responsibility project, We Are Fiber aims to demonstrate and highlight to its staff that their health it’s our priority. One of our main business drivers is the social impact We Are Fiber has on its employees as well as others. Therefore, kindly take good care of yourself and do not neglect your health!
